Pamela Groden Alvarez Wrote... Hello I attended the St. Patrick's Parade Committe Mass this past Saturday. I had attended one thirteen years ago at the Immaculate Conception Church. I could not help but notice what a differnece there was in the two Masses. I'm curious as to why? The Mass I attended at the Immaculate was standing room only (granted it is a smaller church), the energy and spirit were high! The recessional, with the sash wearers leading, was accompanied by a full chior, Mrs. Murray at the organ and the congregation singing one Irish piece after the next. The participants in the processional shook hands, laughed and visited with poeple all the way down the aisle! What a Mass! This year, St. Paul's was at best a third full with no Irish music. Where were all the people, the chior? With the Bishop presiding along with other priests in our beautiful cathedral, the Mass would have been enhanced with the people who were present years ago! Maybe there are less ands less Irish people and enthusiasts in our city? Happy St. Patrick's Day Pam

Pamela Groden Alvarez Wrote... Hello! I'm certain you had a beautiful day to step off the parade! Congratualtions! My cousin and I attended yesterday's Parade Committee's Mass at St. Paul's. It was great to see the Bishop and four priests presiding over this very formal event. However, it was not the sprirted Mass we attended 13 years ago at the Immaculate Conception Church. That year the parish was packed...standing room only! And at the pressional, the organist and FULL chior sang one Irish favorite after the other as the congregational stood and the committe made their proud way down the isle. Shaking hands and smiling all the way!!!!!!!!!!! It was a moment that made everyone proud to be Irish! Saturday's Mass was a bit dissappointing. Where was the true Irish spirit and people? Maybe next year the Mass needs to be better invited and advertised. EVERYONE should have been in attendence. And, certainly, at THE Cathedral, a full choir was to ring out the songs of Ireland proudly. Pamela

We moved from Worcester in 1988 and one of the things I miss most is the St. Patrick's Day parade and celebrations. (It's hard to find corned beef and cabbage dinners around here.)
